When Rajesh Dadu set out to set up his sweet business in 1993 at Himayatnagar (Hyderabad), all he had were Rs 30,000 and the blessings and wise counsel of his mother. Twenty-two years on, Dadu’s Mithai Vatika is a successful name with five outlets in and around the city in Telegana. He believes no business degree is required to be successful. What is needed is common sense, an ear to listen to customers’ expectations, and to deliver more than expected.
A zest for preparing premium sweets and reliable punctuality fuelled Dadu during his sweet-making years in Bengaluru before he returned to Hyderabad. These qualities have helped him garner a faithful clientele over the years.
When the entrepreneur started out with his 800 square feet shop and two employees, it was a tough beginning. He used to sleep out on the pavement to avoid wasting time travelling back home and get up at 4 am to meet the deadlines set by his customers.
All the hard work paid off as the brand started carving a niche for itself in the city’s sweet market – and even went on to be named the Best Sweet Shop in Telengana by Epicurus South India Hospitality Awards 2012. The brand boasts modern and hygienic manufacturing processes, yet manual preparation of products still remains its priority.
Among Dadu’s Mithai Vatika’s wide array of offerings, its dry-fruit special sweets rank among its highest specialities. Badam pista crystal burfi, badam pista pan, kaju anjeer dry fruit gillory, kaju dry fruit cassata, kaju butterscotch roll, and pista sticks are only a few names in its long list of succulent sweets. It also offers delicious namkeen such as magaj mewa mixture, salted pistachios and pepper cashews.
With customer satisfaction as one of the brand’s highest tenets, it has expanded its product range with customer feedback and innovation to around 200 types of mithai – as compared to traditional sweet shops that manage only about 40. Little wonder then that Dadu’s Mithai Vatika's booming business thrives on happy customers.
