Halwa Kadai is a story of how a small group of management students got together to realise their dream of doing something different.  During their term as students at Sri Ramasamy Memorial (SRM) University Chennai, a group of friends set up a stall in the Retail Bazaar Entrepreneurs Programme as part of a marketing venture. They served traditional south Indian food items, all thanks to Moses G Dharmapalan, who had his roots in Tirunelveli – a small city in Tamil Nadu. Customers who ate at the stall said that the taste was truly authentic. Their maiden initiative was a big hit and the team won the coveted Individual Marketer Award. Dharmapalan saw the potential demand for these classic, time-honoured delicacies and set up Halwa Kadai in September 2013 with his fellow mates. The whole endeavour has been a result of the relentless efforts and a never-say-never spirit of each member of the group.

They say word-of-mouth publicity is the best publicity.The goodwill that this enterprise earned from friends and customers through their stalls, worked like a powerful campaign. Their page on Facebook got more than 93,000 likes within three months. Media too heralded the young, energetic team and covered it in many dailies including The Hindu. The company now has customers in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, as well as Delhi and very soon will cater to halwa lovers in Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, US, and UK.
