With a legacy of more than 125 years, Gupta Brothers is one of the oldest sweet-making families in Kolkata. Mahavir Prasad Gupta set up this confectionary way back in 1888. The founder’s grandfather himself was in the business of sweets in Uttar Pradesh. It began as a small shop providing delicious traditional sweets made with pure ghee.Guptaalways had an ambitious vision of serving people and that set his store apart from the others. It used to famously sell Bengali and dry-fruit sweets, but itshing (asafoetida) kachori was also quite popular.
Today the family business is run by the fourth generation Guptas – with Mahavir Prasad’s grandson Gajendra Prasad as the current owner. The store continues to command respect for its high-quality, pure-ghee sweets.
