About Aantour Art & Crafts , Kolkata

An artistic endeavour

Established in 2010 by Aayan Malhotra, Aantour Art & Craft s is a tribute to Odisha’s unique and traditional art and craft. Malhotra is a 29-year old entrepreneur with an altruistic vision of growth to make India smile with prosperity.

Before his foray into art, Aayan Malhotra started with Aantour Private Limited, a tour and travel company, providing affordable religious packages to the common man. Now five years later, eight new businesses and companies flourish under this banner. The company is today a leading gallery and exporter of Indian arts and paintings.

With a production capacity of 1,000 pieces a  month, Aantour Art & Crafts supports skilled, unskilled, and freelance artists engaged in pattachitra paintings and art involving appliqué work, brass, white metal, silver, wood, horn, seashell and stone.

The budding enterprise is also part of various philanthropic activities for members of Odisha’s rural society. The company provides employment opportunities to rural village women and Self Help Group (SHG) foundations.

Specialities

Aantour Art & Crafts specialises in pattachitra paintings. Patta means cloth and chitra means picture. Pattachitra is the time-honoured art of cloth-based scroll painting from Odisha. Traditionally, these paintings depict stories of Hindu deities. Painters use organic colours and pigments, which are a favourite with organic art lovers and collectors the world over.

Buyers get sharp, finished paintings with bright colours and fine detailing. The artworks are as traditional as they are sophisticated and suit almost all kind of decor and furnishings.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The reclining or sleeping Buddha is one of the most iconic representations of the Buddha lying down during his last moments of illness. The Buddha is seen lying on the right side facing west with his head supported by his right hand. It represents the Buddha’s serene posture before leaving this world. It is said that the Buddha attained Nirvana — a state of enlightenment in this moment. Ashitabh Nayak Sleeping Buddha Painting shows tranquillity and absolute detachment from the desires of the world—a state of mind one reaches on attaining Nirvana.

Pattachitra is a traditional art of painting, originating in Odisha in the 12th century AD. The themes detail the life and pastimes of Hindu gods and goddesses. Krishna with his myriad moods, however, is the favourite subject of pattachitra painters.
