About Art of East, Rajkot

Creativity at its best

Art of East is the brainchild of a Gujarati young woman, Niyati Parekh. An aeronautical engineer by qualification, she always knew that her interests lay elsewhere. Inclined towards art, Niyati is also a skilled designer who loves to create handcrafted items. When her friends and family realised her expertise, they gave her the much-needed encouragement to take her hobby further and make it her profession.

It was in 2012 that her artefacts got noticed by a Goan art gallery. This marked the beginning of her commercial venture as she got her first purchase order. Many such commissions were successfully completed and very soon, Niyati established her name in the art circle.

Today, her exhibitions are held in major cities of Gujarat and are highly appreciated by the visitors and media. In early 2015, she started her own enterprise in Rajkot and named it Art of East. Her initial offerings included only three products: clocks, pooja thali, and diya. Currently, she sells more than 100 kinds of highly demanded handicraft items under her brand. She keeps adding to the array of products and continues to showcase her work through exhibitions.

Specifications of Art of East Wooden Clock

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Art of East presents an ethnic, rhombus-shaped, wooden clock for your home. This handcrafted clock is absolutely beautiful with tribal Warli art on the black backdrop. The artist has used earthy colours which go very well with the wooden surface. The machinery used so as to record accurate time is quartz – the world’s most widely-used timekeeping technology. The elegant-looking clock brings a charm and brightens up any room. Moreover, it gives a platform to showcase Warli art – an intellectual property of the Adivasis in the Maharashtra-Gujarat border  which needs preservation and propagation.

From Galileo’s pendulum clock to Irish clockmaker Alexander Bain’s first electric clock in 1840, the history of clocks is an old one. Couple it with the Warli art, claimed to have been around since 3000 BC, this piece of work speaks volumes about time. The invention of clock has led to much more scientific advancement. From simple time-telling to satellite navigation systems such as the Global Positioning Sytem (GPS), it is an indispensable machine for humans.
