About Art of East, Rajkot

Creativity at its best

Art of East is the brainchild of a Gujarati young woman, Niyati Parekh. An aeronautical engineer by qualification, she always knew that her interests lay elsewhere. Inclined towards art, Niyati is also a skilled designer who loves to create handcrafted items. When her friends and family realised her expertise, they gave her the much-needed encouragement to take her hobby further and make it her profession.

It was in 2012 that her artefacts got noticed by a Goan art gallery. This marked the beginning of her commercial venture as she got her first purchase order. Many such commissions were successfully completed and very soon, Niyati established her name in the art circle.

Today, her exhibitions are held in major cities of Gujarat and are highly appreciated by the visitors and media. In early 2015, she started her own enterprise in Rajkot and named it Art of East. Her initial offerings included only three products: clocks, pooja thali, and diya. Currently, she sells more than 100 kinds of highly demanded handicraft items under her brand. She keeps adding to the array of products and continues to showcase her work through exhibitions.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A lovely glass painting, Art of East Feng Shui Frames is aesthetically very pleasing. Square in shape, it has a brown-coloured frame and is made of glass. It depicts a ship moving amidst calm waters towards a beautiful sunset.  The sails of the ship have stylish ombré shading, and give your room an arty touch. The entire scenery has a calming effect on the mind and is perfect for the walls of your home or office.

Glass painting is one of the more democratic of the visual arts, bridging the gap between folk and fine art. It can be abstract or figurative and incorporate narratives drawn from religious books, history, or literature.

Glass painting, or reverse glass painting, spread from Europe to the United States in the 18th century. In India, it emerged in Gujarat around the same time. According to glass artist Mayanne MacKay, reverse glass painting can be traced back as far back as the Renaissance era, when it became fashionable in Italy. Today, it is practised across the world. Some artists do it professionally, and others dabble in it as a hobby.
